Application

What are the entry requirements?

Usually an upper second-class honours MSci or MPhys degree in Physics or a related subject (or international equivalent) is required. Please see our programme entry page for further details.

Should I contact potential supervisors before applying?

You don’t need to know your proposed area of research before you apply. During year 1 the taught courses will help you understand the breadth of the Condensed Matter Physics research area and you will then choose a PhD project and supervisor later in year 1.

When is the deadline for applications?

Applications for 2018/19 are now open. The deadline for round 2 for application is 9am on Monday 26 February, with interviews held Thursday 01 March.

When is your next open day?

BATH: Our CDT-CMP Open day in Bath is usually held in December. Please see our visits and open days page for more information.

BRISTOL: Our University Postgraduate Open day in Bristol is usually held in November. Please see our visits and open days page for more information.

I can’t make your open day. Can I come and visit?

We will invite suitable applicants to visit us for an interview. Applicants based overseas may be interviewed via Skype.

English is not my first language. Is there an entry requirement for the standard of English?

Further information on this is available in our CDT-CMP admissions statement.
